2.3. Purchasing a v3 Unit
WebShop
The WebShop is where to purchase Genboard v3 equipment. There you will find all sorts of parts, including v3 ECU's, wiring, sensors, and other things that will help you in your installation. The address to the WebShop is
.
Shop usage
- The recommended payment method is easy, and leaves the buyer a few days to make a payment.
- With the counter-recommended payment methods, take care to complete all the steps. It happened a few times with paypal and moneybooker methods that payment arrived, but we had to ask the buyer in email about the list because the order-checkout was not completed fully: at the end of the checkout procedure the "order processed" text is very misleading; the order is only sent in fact when the continue button is pressed after this (returns user to catalog).
- After checking out the shopping cart, an email will be sent automatically within minutes, and another email within 2 days with a confirmation that your order had been set to processing state. The confirmation email sometimes asks some details eg. when it looks like something might be missing. If you somehow don't get such notification, you should write to "shop at x-dsl dot hu" to be sure. Later notifications will be sent out when the state of order changes. If you think your order status should be "paid and delivered" but it apparently is not, it might be good idea to write and ask about it. Add any notes about what you think would be useful (eg. you would like some 20V SMD diodes for flyback).
- Any extra request or note (asked in order note or negotiated in wiki, email, IRC) is written in the shop. The customer gets email notifications of these.
This page helps you make your BOM in WebShop
Bill of Materials (BOM): items that are needed to complete the project
With the flexibility of Genboard and the number of related items, customers find it intimidating to pack their shopping carts. The best way is to create a Member's Page in the wiki and write the BOM together with the basic project description. See MembersPage in the Wiki to make a project page of your own, describing:
- Which features are planned to be used initially and later in the project.
- What packaging options are being considered.
- What engine, engine configuration, and vehicle into which Genboard is being installed. We may already know what you need!
- Ask people to review and help with your BOM. Make it clear what you are confident of and what you would like help/suggestion on.
- List items that are bought from other sources. It is a good idea to keep it somewhat separate from the VEMS WebShop BOM.
- A few notes about why the items are needed and how they are going to be used is good. However if there are many details, it's better to keep a BOM separate (even a separate page is good) from the project details (the project broken into sections thematically - eg. overview, sensors, input trigger, fueling, idle air, ignition, etc...). This is a little redundant, but it helps when ordering and others when reviewing your BOM.
Recommended payment methods
All these can be selected with the check / money order option which means that the payment is processed independently from the order (opposed to moneybooker and paypal that does not check-out the order before payment is made). Advantage is that this allows some negotiation, a few percent discount and payment somewhat later when the order is confirmed.
- IBAN transfer (International Bank Account Number) works worldwide. Safest and fastest of all. Most likely your bank supports it too. This is the preferred method. When they ask if you want to cover the international cost of money transfer, say "NO". Only pay the basic fee. Recipient account details are disclosed with the check / money order option.
- SWIFT or also called BIC (Bank Identifier Code) is similar to IBAN. It is slightly more expensive, but still cheap. Recipient account is the same as IBAN. We prefer IBAN and revert to SWIFT if the bank does not support IBAN. Take care; some banks trickily recommend SWIFT instead of IBAN because they charge slightly more for it.
-
makes it possible to pay via credit card. Upload to your ikobo account, and transfer to the VEMS account called "A. Anita <akobo at x-dsl dot hu>" (cryptified) ema.l addr. Note: maximum amount that can be sent in a month is 500 USD without authentication. For larger amounts authentication is simple (a scanned or faxed household bill); the payment can be split, with the 2nd half transferred a month later.
- System development is the best barter type of payment: fun and good for learning.
NOT recommended payment methods
As we do the clearing between warehouses (and developers) we can support relatively large portfolio of payment methods. Some are not very convenient, or cause some regular loss to VEMS. While Paypal worked acceptably to route payment to US developers, Paypal stole a lot from us when we tried to route payments to EU developers.
-
- similar to Paypal, but much better outside US.
- Paypal works, but NOT recommended. There is an 8.8% fee to cover fraud done by Paypal. Paypal systematically steals their users' money - see PaypalStealsYourMoney in the Wiki.
- Personal checks work in the US. Jason (US warehouse) will decide how inconvenient and costly it is for him.
- Check deposit is bad in Europe. 25 Euro, considerable manual work and travel, and 1 month waiting are common. Fee is +25 Euro and +4%. It might be better to send to Jason, or forget checks altogether.
