Tuning software refers to the software that is used to configure parameters of the Genboard module. Tuning software is used during the tuning phase. When the desired level of performance, drivability etc has been reached, it is not used any more. The tuning software is run on a normal PC and requires the Windows operation system. Communication between the Genboard module and the software is attained via a serial cable.
The official supported tuning software is named MegaTune, which is included with all firmware packages. MegaTune's configuration settings are specifically tailored to each version of the firmware. ALWAYS use the MegaTune package that is set up for your firmware version. Section 5.2.1, “Obtaining”
MegaTune can be downloaded from the wiki on the MegaTune page. All VEMS specific releases are listed on this page. Some releases are matched to a firmware version, but others require some modification to the vemsv3.ini file to work properly. The easiest way to obtain a version of Megatune is to download a copy of the firmware package which is installed on your Genboard.
MegaTune is included with all firmware packages. Download the the fimware package that matches your firmware version. If you do not know which version of firmware you have, it can be determined by sending the command 'ManmdV' (UPPERCASE 'V' should be used. lowercase 'v' shows build date of firmware) through a terminal connection. Genboard will reply with the firmware version, eg "1.0.45". The firmware version is also displayed on the LCD upon bootup. All firmware revisions are available at GenBoard/UnderDevelopment/FirmwareChanges in the wiki.
No installation is required to run MegaTune or Bray Terminal. Simply run the executables stored on the drive where your firmware has been extracted. The firmware package must be unzipped using a ZIP compression tool. The zip utility included with Unix and Linux can be used on those operating systems. Winzip (http://www.winzip.com/) is a good utility for Windows.
Tuning software upgrades are only necessary with firmware updates, as all features are included with every release. A hardware upgrade is immediately useful after the installation of that hardware. See Section 5.3.2, “Upgrade” for more details.
