V3 password protection
Vems V3 ECU can be protected with password.

If set up and enabled, password is needed to read or modify configuration. Important: backup the password(s) to alternative safe places, don't lose it.

ECU Password can be requested in the order comment at order time (no extra charge): "Please specify v3 password.". Alternatively, if really necessary, shop contact "Please provide v3 password for ECU serial number=.... (order Id=...)". ECU serialnr is essential.

To enable protection, edit (or create) VemsTune main directory/config/password.txt (windows attention: not password.txt.txt , check properties carefully if having problem!)

Just one line for each ECU : 6 digit serial number = ECU password, for example: 001234=12AF45BE

If no password.txt file yet, create it from scratch or copy or rename password-example.txt to password.txt (again: NOT password.txt.txt so check file properties carefully).

(Re)start VemsTune, connect ECU and enable(or disable) protection in File menu/"Password Protection". Password protection should NOT normally be needed. If enabled at all, it should be enabled at the very end of the install, when everything is tuned: after install details, configs and logs are backed up to permanent safe storage. Disabling password protection might help with some special (eg. baudrate>19200) operations, eg. capturing triggerlog, or saving files from SD card: if suspecting any issues with VemsTune, disable password protection. It is recommended to disable password protection before tuning with VemsTune or making config changes:

  • Tune everything
  • Save install details, configs and logs to permanent safe storage
  • Request password (see above), add entry to password.txt , and enable password protection
  • ECU controls the engine with password protected. For any vemstune operation (except maybe simple datalogging) disable password protection
