Audi S2 Coupe 2.2L 20vt --> 400+ bhp
I'm planning to convert my Motronic Audi S2 Coupe (3B-engine) to the VEMS motronic55.
I can use your help, that's for sure.
- I run the 3B MembersPage/PeterJensen/AudiSwiring
On the productpage of the VEMS motronic55, the 3B is not listed, at the top of the page. The ABY, AAN and ADU are. But the 3B is mentioned on the page. I know that there are more VEMSed 3B-engines.
3B is also supported, MembersPage/MarcellGal/PowerAndTraction also uses a 3B harness. Difference from AAN:
- different pinout on the motronic55 connector
- there is a small 25A relay inside the 3B ECU to power the injector+ (flyback mot55/37) from the constant+12V (mot55/18) when the ECU gets power (from ignition key)
- very slightly different fuel pressure: the 6% flow difference shouldn't prevent startup, and one needs to tune anyway
- the 1 coil (+distributer) works well in several setups up to appr 1.5 bar boost, most want to use more than 1 ignition transformer to allow higher dwell and spread the heat between more transformers. This is obviously on extra sealed connector (flying loom through endplate). This requires some planning, eg. decision if logiclevel or power-outputs are needed
- MembersPage/MarcellGal/PowerAndTraction uses 3 transformers (cyl2,5 and cyl3,4 are driven from a 2x2 wasted spark transformer driven by power IGBT outputs ignch2 and ignch3. 288 crankdegrees is more than enough for dwell, while 144 crankdegree - 400 usec transformer offtime is not always enough at boost > 1.5 bar). Cyl1 can be driven directly from the factory power-output-stage and coil, driven by stepper-D channel.
- 5 coils is more common. Again, logiclevel or power outputs.
My S2 isn't much tampered with, I have it since 2000 and the engine is in good shape.
The only mods I have done:
- Big stainless exhaust + Dahlback style intake + steel divertervalve
- RS2 intercooler
- 996 GT3 brakes with 360mm rotors
- Lowered and 18 inch wheels
- Chiptuned and 250kPa MAP sensor
Parts that we already own:
- STR exhaust manifold
- 034motorsport RS2 injectors
- K26/27 turbocharger, with an 8 exhaust
- Ultimot RS wastegate spring
- 6 speed RS2 gearbox and all the linkage and stuff
- Catalyst replacement pipes
Planned items:
- Uprated conrods
- Uprated fuelpump
- New bearings in bottom and overhaul
- New hydraulic lifters (maybe mechanical)
- Exhaust cam of a N/A 2.3-20v (7A)
- Short inlet route (quite similar to AAN-engine)
- Bigger downpipe
- Light flywheel and Stage3+ clutch 034motorsport
Project
I want to start, with good and precise ordering.
Can someone deliver a raw basemap for the 3B? I'm searching alot on the Wiki, to clear things up. The engine, now, is quite standard, and should run on a standard map.
What would you suggest to order?
I want:
- wideband
- EGT
- 1 --> 5 coils future upgrade
- loose the standard MAF.
Background
My brother and myself are running http://www.S2power.com from Holland.
So my brother will be the next, for a VEMS on his S2 Coupe ABY. My mate has bought my S2 Avant, and is running a Garrett GT3071. I think that he will switch to VEMS also, if I can get my Coupe nicely running.
