The Rover V8 has a fairly simple EFI harness that maps readily to the VEMS ECU. There were two ECUs used on the hotwire systems, the 14CU and the 14CUX, each with slightly different pin-out. We've got the 14CUX to play with here.

Should we be using the 88/89 diagram instead?
Trigger signal - channel A, 1V per segment:
Pin mapping:
Function | Wire Colour | Rover ECU pin | VEMS ECU pin | Comments |
Power | ||||
Vbatt | White/Slate | 19 | EC36-25
Ground | Black | 14 and 40 | EC36-26 | see GenBoard/Manual/GroundConnections |
Power Ground | Black | 14 and 40 | EC36-21 EC36-32 EC36-5 | connect these as hard as possible: inside and outside the board |
Inputs | ||||
Trigger | White/Black | 39 | EC36-27 | 2.2V spike, so 733 Ohm Rext is needed |
TPS and CLT +5V | Red/Black | 25 | EC36-28 | Should wire MAT into this too. |
TPS | Red | 20 | EC36-1 | ideally increases with larger throttle opening. But even if it's reversed for some reason: you can now configure it |
TPS Gnd | Yellow | 3 | EC36-5 | Power ground (GND5). EC36-pin26 is analog ground. But you can connect them if you like, see GenBoard/Manual/GroundConnections |
Coolant temperature | Green/Blue | 7 | EC36-14
Manifold air temp | - | 30 | EC36-2 | Fit sensor and connect to spare ECU pin |
Outputs | ||||
Fuel pump relay -ve | Blue/Purple | 16 | EC36-15
Injector right bank | Yellow/White | 11 | EC36-7 | Injector channel A |
Injector left bank | Yellow/Blue | 13 | EC36-19 | Injector channel B |
Idle stepper A | Orange | 29 | EC18-4
Idle stepper B | Blue/Slate | 28 | EC18-10
Idle stepper C | Green/White | 26 | EC18-5
Idle stepper D | Red/Green | 1 | EC18-11 |
There are spare inputs that are probably not used on this car. Things like road speed input (map to 2nd VR input) etc.
It seems that TRW/Lucas can't be bothered to answer their email. So, we'll do it properly and use Econoseal connectors and make a new loom.
