Porsche 911 Turbo 6 cylinder engine, engine unknown but had the Motronic from the 3.2 engine running before vems install.
Firing order, and ignition output wiring
Document this part if you like. It makes it possible for someone to help you with ign output configuration (so it's a good idea).
Firing order: cyl-N and related ign output for all 6 cylinders:
- cyl1 ..., TDC is ... crankdegrees after sectrig pulse
- ...
- ...
- ...
- ...
- ...
- ...
Without the ign wiring someone will assume that you know what you are doing, and you'll be able to set ign outputs.
Trigger setup - needs EXACT description
Flywheel tooth and flywheel pin triggering, flywheel supposedly is 129+1 (so what is the setup actually?)
Correct (or confirm) this:
- sectrig: and 1 tooth per crankrot.
- primtrig: 132 evenly spaced tooth (360/132=2.73 degrees)
- With divby2, in the triggerlog it appears 1 sectrig pulse every 61 primtrig pulse.
I took a trigger log, but it only shows the primary trigger.
Trigger log: http://www.vems.hu/files/KevinBlack/v3.3_u004215-2011-12-10-17.14.37.triggerlog
The flywheel pin trigger is working (checked with scope for polarity).
- enable sectrig (yes, with "camsync" option), and capture a triggerlog that way.
- if the triggerlog does not show sectrig, it just won't work !
'''trigger was set to missing tooth, is now set to coil type and
now I see an RPM signal, and I see "spark" in the trigger log.
ECU#4215 vr/vr trigger(auditrigger non camhall)
Tlywheel Tooth Trigger to EC36-27
Flywheel Pin Trigger to EC18-12
This engine is originally K-Jetronic (CIS), did you convert it to EFI? AFAIK 132+1 is present on 944 Turbo (240 mm clutch) but could be on 930 as well as it has also 240 mm clutch. 129+1 is not likely as it is for 225 mm clutches (911 3.2 Carrera, which has Motronic already).
Here's link to 911 Workshop Manual, years 1984-1989: http://www.cannell.co.uk/911_72-89_Workshop_Manuals/84-89%20Workshop%20Manual.pdf
Maybe there's some info on 911 Turbo as well.(MembersPage/PeepPaadam)
- Added update about engine above, it had 3.2 motronic running.
- I have an rpm signal now, but timing is not steady. I don't know the correct configuration for auditrigger (with secondary trigger every Nth primtrig pulse, just like traditional auditrigger).
Porsche trigger config proposal:
http://www.vems.hu/files/KevinBlack/porsche_911.vemscfg
- set ignition outputs
- set "TDC after trigger"
- Do NOT disable sectrig !
- Sectrig is required, and don't be confused by the "camsync" naming. The ECU does not care if the sequence restarts after every crankrot (or every second crankrot, as in the case of real camsync).
- Thanks, this file has 6 ignition outputs. Our car has a Waste spark coil and is using outputs 0,1,2.
- Since you didn't write ign-output wiring info, you will have to set ign-outputs yourself (of course !). See "Firing order, and ignition output wiring" section above,
- Also I see it is set-up for Cam Sync
- yes, that is correct ! Disabling sectrig would ruin the config.
- this car has no cam sensor...
- Do NOT worry about it being called cam-sync - as it is called in the usual case. Call it secondary trigger if you like. Because of the evenly spaced teeth it required secondary trigger.
I tried a new set-up (.vemslog or .config?)
The problem is, we discovered that the order is different each time we crank the engine.
- If you disabled sectrig, it's just a waste of time.
Example: Checking Spark at #1 with a strobe light, first try we see the TDC mark, next try we see the 240 degree mark, next try maybe 120 mark.
- Is the secondary trigger disabled ? That wouldn't make sense
The car actually ran for a while, I think it is just luck that it happened to fire correctly on that attempt.
Trigger Edge: Rising
TriggerType: Coil Type
Special Trigger Type: Auditrigger DivbyN
Audi trigger divider: 43
Number Of Teeth On Wheel: 6
First Trigger Tooth: 0
Next Trigger Tooth: 2
This set-up makes a clean triggerlog with 6 triggers and 6 spark events.
vemslog (or vemscfg) and triggerlogs will be posted later tonight. Thanks.
