This topic has started as request assistance with buy to choose all options correctly.
However I will need probably more assistance so would like also share gained information with others to help with further installations.
Goal: Fit VEMS to control BMW M62B44(no Vanos) modified engine but still natural aspirated.
hint: when installing, make it separate page for each project (to avoid disambiguaty)
Stock M62 parameters:
- V8
- DOHC without VANOS
- STOCK ECU BOSCH DME M5.2
- Fully sequential injection
- 8 coils "passive"
- ABS ring wheel speed signal (direct)
- Idle : ZWD "idle speed is controlled on the M62 engine by means of a two-winding rotary actuator"

- can we implement 8 high current [ignition drivers] => those would be able to control 2 ignition coils each.
- can we add 8 further ignition drivers to to the 8 ignition outputs (2 parallel on each output)?
yes, Either
- order with 0 IGBT (8 logiclevel), and order
- [3 clamping plates]
- and 1 [insulatorsheet] (3 lines)"
- this allows using an external heatsink to mount 16 IGBTs in 3 lines
OR
- order with 8 IGBT , and order comment: "please wire the 8 internal LOGICLEVEL IGBT gate-drives to flying loom EC10 connector, and add 2 clamping plates, and 1 insulatorsheet (2 lines)"
- this allows using an external heatsink to mount 8 IGBTs in 2 lines
Alternatively request "200 mm long flanged box".
Either to fit 16 IGBT-s inside ECU, or 2 complete VEMS ECU-s (also provides redundancy)
- 2 ECU would fit siamese in 100mm long extrusion (one to front and one to back: with external MAP sensor)
- or if driving total 16 passive ignition coils (from 8 or 16 ignition IGBTs, either from 1 or 2 ECUs) the 200mm => added surface provides more "thermal room" for slightly longer dwell (during long rally sessions, under suboptimal conditions, eg. >80C).
- with careful installation and measurements + testing: possible to drive 2*8 passive igncoils from 8 IGBTs even from standard VEMS ECU : too high dwell (configured) would result in insufficient cooling situation
