I have seen that some of you already have the VEMS running on the Audi I5, so it is possible to Trigger the Timing with InputTrigger/AudiTrigger (the Hall sensor on the Camshaft pulley and the Engine Position Sensor on the Flywheel and the 135-tooth crankwheel).
- some uses the stock ABY-AAN-ADU ignition system-Coils-Stages
- some bypass the coil power-output-stage and order IGBT outputs to drive the coils directly. Definitely a thing to consider if you have bad power-output stage(s) anyway
- some use 4*stepper outputs and 1* i259 logiclevel output with strengthened pullup (510 Ohm/2 instead of the default 510 Ohm: free if you specify so in the order note) to drive VAG COPs
- some use the distributer as on the 3B engine, but most 3B engine installers choose to eliminate the mechanical point of uncertainty (setting the rotor house position is nontrivial, especially with the wide spark-angle range of ALS), and order extra outputs on flying loom SSC6 on the endplate of the PNP motronic55 VEMS box. These can be logiclevel or power-outputs as specified in the order
- some use mixed-hack (like driving 3B cyl1 via original power-output-stage, and cyl2..5 via a 2x2 wasted-spark coil, possible power-output). Like the temporary solution on MembersPage/MarcellGal/PowerAndTraction (works well, but the final solution might be 5 channel CDI to allow IonSense). This is not recommended unless one knows what he's doing (checking dwell => spark Energy, etc...)

We have run VEMS on several different (3B/AAN/ADU) I5 Audi engines in here. We've always used PlugNPlay adapter to connect VEMS to original motronic wiring/sensors and it's possible to switch back to original system in a few minutes.
Some notes according to my current knowledge:
- Stock coils and end stages are used. However, VEMS has capability to run dummy coils too (IGBTs inside ECM) so it would be possible to get rid of the amazingly expensive end stages.
- Can this be done when they fail?
- Stock sensors are used
- Engine ref position sensor polarity needs to be swapped (easy to do inside firewall connector)
- Intake air temperature PTC has very flat temperature/resistance curve, for better resolution some other sensor would be worth to think (or order with different bias resistors on board => standard is 429..430 Ohm pullup for the AAN/ABY/ADU pinout)
- I think i could use also another one (What do you suggest) connected to the stock Intake Temp Sensor harness in oder to change easy to Motronic for Diagnostic reasons.
- Onboard computer is not showing fuel consumption etc
- 0..5V analogs output are connected to the fuel consumption and the boost input signal pins of the trip computer. It is under investigation though. If you have some knowledge about it (or can experiment by a variable resistor sending in 0..5V signal and see what the trip computer thinks), please share
- Sorry dont know much about it but i could try to find out (RS2 has: Instand fuel consumption, Kilometer till no fuel, Liter consumed since Ignition turned on, Time of the Trip, average consumption, something else i cant remember now).

- Starting while cranking is not as quick as with motronic, but it's mostly due inproper tuning
- my 3B starts in appr 2 cam revolutions, using 5/2 msec cranking pulsewidth (cold/hot, fire all banks during cranking). How quick is motronic ?
