THANKS JORGEN!
Well, I was never able to get a 'hello' from the board and in the midst of trying various things, I accidentally hooked up power backwards. Now I DEFINITELY have no hello from the board. I need help.
- what supply did you use?
- what settings ?
- voltage
- current limit
- what fuse was installed?
- what trace burnt ? upload picture, if any
- what is voltage measured with DVM diode mode (red applied to +VBatt and black applied to GND and GND5)
- what is current consumption from supply of 6..7V ?
- I've still got power at the 5v+ output for TPS and keyboard power. about 3.3v with the above supply.
serial
Describe your serial connection.
- Hooked up as shown and double checked in the wiki.
- Using USB adapter, which could be the culprit along with low voltage according to Jorgen
Test your serial cable and TerminalProgram
When cable not connected to GenBoard, connect RX and TX (pin 2 and 3 of DSUB9 RS232) and see if you see if you see in TerminalProgram.
WILL TRY THIS AGAIN SOON - thanks for help!
- make sure you talk to firmware in 9600, 8n1 : say Man
- try to talk to BootLoader
- disconnect serial cable from GenBoard
- apply loopback to GenBoard RX-TX
- powerup board
- remove loopback
- connect serial cable to GenBoard
- TerminalProgram 19200, 8n1
- type 'S'
- got "AVREFI1" ?
- type 'v'
- got anything? (20?)
- type 'p'
- got anything? (20?)
Took a while to get all of the hardware made for the engine but now I'm in the final stages of wiring.
This is a coil-on-plug setup, so I'm using a 60-2 wheel on the crank pulley with the Audi VR sensor and the Cam position Hall sensor that is already installed on the motor.
- Could not find out which wires are +/- so I will just start plugging things in until I see smoke. Wish me luck!
- I see a pattern here :-) Seriously, avoid powering the HALL sensor directly until you have some info about what could be. Take pics, write down numbers you see on it, any info where it came from, measure with DVM diode mode (current limited to very low current) in both directions. Than use a current limited supply of 15..50mA (also possible with a series resistor). Get a magnet and write a plan for how you want to test the HALL sensor
You are unlikely to cause harm to a VR sensor, which is a coil with appr. 500 Ohm resistance (and no need for supply).
I am assuming that I need to use a generic relay for the fuel pump since the Audi pump relay has complexities built in. I lack a any schematics for anything at the moment....
A simple relay should be the way to go, especially if you have uncertainty about the audi pump relay operation specialties. Common parts also help to keep long-term maintenance and operation costs down.
