[Tinyos ] is an awesome project with the AtMega128
It has nothing to do directly with engine management, except that TinyOS can be run on GenBoard or AfreshBoard (not integrated with the efi application), and you can study their code and learn a lot.
Very useful for complex sensor-network or remote control (aviaton modelling) applications.
