It makes sense to install thermocouples after the turbo, in almost all cases
* notable exception when all cylinders are measured individually). * The turbine causes a [reproducible temperature drop] according to adiabatic process therefore it makes sense to measure after the turbo (since the pre-turbo temperature is known from that). We recommend using the 6/2mm or 6/3 mm cone [EGT sensors] = K-thermocouples (2 and 3 mm with the conical tip) * available for years (even slightly cheaper than the 6mm) and eliminates welding related risk (5..8mm insertion depth needsturb some care during installation). * this is the correct choice pre-turbo ---- The VEMS-speed K-thermocouple unifies the advantages of extreme durability (6mm body, very strong even if pushed well into a large exhaust), and very fast operation: 2020-05-26: received complaint with the cone-welding (effecting at least 2 sensors in the last batch, under investigation). It is explicitely counterrecommended to install pre-turbo (does not make sense anyway; see above). |
