Visit Preferences to set your user name Summary of change: What we have at the moment is: BMW 325iX with stock M20B25 (inline 6 cyl) engine planned to be turbocharged, but before it the GenBoard v3.x should take its place on the car. As I am not an electronics expert, any help from others who have successfuly managed to install Genboard on their cars will be appreciated! As we have a spare engine, while studying / installing Genboard these changes will be made on it and later it will be installed on the car in the place of the stock engine: * larger 440cc low impedance injectors (available at the moment); * head porting, slight combustion chamber changes; * custom inlet, outlet manifolds; * lighter valve retainers, rods, flywheel etc.; * turbocharger; * ignition: '''got COPs from M52 (Bremi 11860)''' [MembersPage/PhatBob] How many connections do the wires have? Can you get hold of the wiring schematic for the installation that has these coils as this makes working out the connection a hell of a lot easier. I guess this is what you mean: [http://photobucket.com/albums/a97/crushcars/Turbo%20project/?action=view¤t=M52_electrical.jpg wiring] [http://photobucket.com/albums/a97/crushcars/Turbo%20project/?action=view¤t=COP1.jpg coil_1] [http://photobucket.com/albums/a97/crushcars/Turbo%20project/?action=view¤t=COP2.jpg coil_2] [http://photobucket.com/albums/a97/crushcars/Turbo%20project/?action=view¤t=COP3.jpg coil_3] Resistance measured: primary coil: 0.7 Ohm; secondary: 7 kOhm. There are 3 connections on each COP. Weight ? These look like very standard transformers. If they are good for inductive ignition app, GenBoard can drive them. If they are for CDI only (inductivity should be measured to know, if their datasheet is not available. Or experiment from 800 us dwell, and measure spark energy, see DummyIgnition, DwellControlIgnition). Got specification for COPs: [http://photobucket.com/albums/a97/crushcars/Turbo%20project/?action=view¤t=data_sheet.jpg Data sheet]. It looks like a standard transformer that can be driven with the ECM power stage (ignition IGBT). However, the "activation=BIP142" line is very confusing. It might just be a recommendation to drive with. If there is a BIP142 inside, other lines (like the primary resistance=0.55 Ohm) becomes confusing. Also note that this "datasheet" contains no pinout. A proper datasheet with pinout and some voltage diagrams would clear it all up. I think it should be safe to start to drive it hard with IGBT, with 2.5msec dwell, (with max 1.5 mm secondary gap, of course, not open!) and see the result, increase dwell to 3msec and beyond if necessary. Got the [http://photobucket.com/albums/a97/crushcars/Turbo%20project/?action=view¤t=pinout.jpg pinout] diagram, but saddly no voltage diagramms available. About "activation=BIP142" (from coil manufacturer quotation): ''its a description for tripple-Darlington, which is installed in this car. It´s only a lead to measure the realistic technical data.'' ---- Shopping cart: * 1 x Assembled v3.3 controller ** ignition driver: 6+2; (this means 6 power outputs, 3 or 6 of which you apparently plan to use; and 2 logic-level - these will be unused) **Knock and EGT: yes; **LCD and PS2: yes; **MAP connection: 250kPa onboard; **primary_trigger: VR; **secondary_trigger: Auditrigger; *1 x EC36-harness *1 x EC18-harness *1 x Wideband O2 sensor ** 1 x WBO2 connector * 1 x EGT sensor * 1 x LCD '''Q: What else is needed?''' ---- '''Links to similar engines''' * MembersPage/GergelyLezsak * MembersPage/BengtR * search for BMW on SiteIndex Optional: Add document to category: Wiki formatting: * is Bullet list ** Bullet list subentry ...
