We recognized that the MAF connector is simply unsuitable, because we need 4 pins (neither must be connected to GND or +5V) which is simply not available in the MAF connector. I erased some prior issues that I posted about on here but resolved in getting the ECU to talk to megatune, turned out to be related to a pcmcia to serial converter that megatune just didn't like! For the 'next guy' out there, here was my step by step procedure for getting motronic vems up and running: download the audi specific firmware uploader from here: http://www.vems.hu/download/v3gui/V3GUI-audi-1.1.24.zip download the 1.1.23 firmware from here: http://www.vems.hu/download/v3/firmware/v3_firmware_1.1.23.zip download megatune from here: http://vems.hu/www.vems.co.uk/VEMSTech/VemsMT1.1.23rc.zip plug in the ecu to the car and turn the igntion on. connect the laptop to the serial interface on the ecu. Run the 'V3Gui' executable. Click on 'upload firmware'. There will be a bunch of file selection dialogs you need to click on. For the firmware, select the (unzipped!) base directory for the 1.1.23 firmware. For the air patch file, go to the v3gui-audi folder, click on the NTC sub folder and select airxfactor_1900_256.hex. For the coolant patch file select audi_ptc260-425_ntc1900_256.hex from within the same folder. be sure both boxes are checked, and when ready click upload firmware (assuming your com port settings are all set). after that finishes, navigate to the 'config' directory within the folder for megatune. download this config.txt and tables.txt file (overwrite a file by the same name if it exists): http://www.theswansonfamily.us/modules/gallery2/d/54374-1/config.txt http://www.theswansonfamily.us/modules/gallery2/d/54377-1/tables.txt next, if you're connecting to the ecu via anything other than com1, you'll need to edit the upload-config.bat file and change where it says 'com1' to 'comX' where 'X' is your com port number. open an msdos command prompt window and change into the megatune software directory. run the generate-config.bat program. This will create some intermediary files based on the config and tables files you uploaded a moment ago. Next (again from the msdos command prompt) run the upload-config.bat program. It will ask you to press a key a few times. after it uploads the config it will ask you to hit escape, then it will start on the tables file and ask you to hit escape again. Once its all done, go ahead and turn off the ignition. Next step is to switch the wiring for the reference sender (It would be nice for VEMS to provide a simple adapter cable to make this easier). To do this, remove the plastic cover on the firewall that covers the multitude of connectors and locate the black 3 pin connector that runs to the block of two VR senders attached to the bell housing. you'll need to swap two of the pins in this connector, the red wire needs to be switched with the violet wire, see here: http://www.vems.hu/wiki/index.php?page=VemsAudiAan Once that is done, the car should fire right up. In my config settings I have disabled idle control and closed loop operation until I can get them working right. Megatune should communicate with the ECU just fine at this point. Hope that helps! ---- Marc again, On the wideband pins I dont think it makes any sense to route the wiring to unused pins on the motronic connector. It is a royal pain to install pins into the connector which would then have to be rolled into a lengthy harness to reach into the engine bay anyway.
